What is Laser Skin Tightening?
Laser skin tightening utilizes laser light in the infrared spectrum to heat up the collagen underneath the skin through a bulk heating process. This bulk heating of the collagen causes collagen denaturation and results in new collagen formation. This procedure is excellent for people who are starting to see saggy jowls or for those with loose sagging skin on the neck.
What is the laser skin tightening procedure like?
The laser skin tightening procedure takes about 45 minutes. You will be asked to cleanse your face thoroughly. After a series of pre-treatment photos are taken, a thin layer of cool gel will be applied to your face. A cooling device, similar to a cold blower, may be used to cool your skin. Then the laser light will be applied in a series of pulses to the treatment area. After the treatment, we will apply a post-treatment laser cream and sunblock, and send you on your way.
Is Skin Tightening Treatment Painful?
Laser skin tightening treatment should not be painful. Before treatment, the practitioner will smooth an anesthetic cream over the area to be affected in order to minimize the risk of any discomfort for the patient. Most patients who undergo skin tightening treatment experience only minor discomfort in the form of a heating sensation. This is usually eased by the regular cooling blasts of air produced by the laser skin tightening handpiece, which increases patient comfort and prevents the epidermis, or outer layer of skin, from burning. It is also fairly common for patients to experience a mild stinging sensation from the laser, which is most commonly compared to the sensation of a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Any discomfort encountered by patients during a laser skin tightening session should resolve itself within minutes of the treatment session, though patients may feel some warmth in the treated skin for up to 48 hours after treatment.
